A new history for The Barracks

The Barracks Brisbane has and continues to play an important role in the history of Brisbane City. Making its mark on the Brisbane landscape, The Barracks continues to transform with the ever growing city.

The three main heritage listed buildings at The Barracks stem from the Police era and once consisted of stables for horses dating back to 1912. From 1939 to 1941, the three storey brick Barracks was not just home to police officers but it also housed the radio communications centre as well.

Prior to the Police Barracks calling 61 Petrie Terrace home, it was a two cell block gaol. Once redesign was planned for the now retail hub, the sandstone foundations were recovered and have been featured in and around the development ever since.

Now some new history is being made at The Barracks. We are so excited to announce that two of Brisbane’s most popular radio stations Hit105 and Triple M now call The Barracks their audio home.

The move has been one of the biggest and most technical relocations in radio history, with two fully operational radio stations making the move over to our heritage listed building. Most impressively, the move saw 125 team members relocate with no break in transmission!

The Barracks continues to redevelop while paying respect to the local area and rich history within the community. With a multitude of lifestyle retailers and an abundance of offerings, The Barracks continues to evolve and grow in a space which pays homage to its past. Keep your eyes peeled for what’s to come!
